Investigation

First, we open things up to investigate the existing BMW 325i / 330i speakers (dimensions, etc). A benefit of keeping the exsting Alpine amp and BMW head unit is that we can turn on the system as we dismantle it. I was able to listen to the individual speakers as separate parts.

Here's how to disassemble the interior - it's really quite easy.

Front Door Panel

We begin by removing the door panel on the front driver's side. Shown here is the panel with the bass and midrange speakers mounted.

The airbag is not affected. It's mounted on the door, not the removable door panel.

To begin with the door panel, pry out the wood trim strip that's connected with the release handle. It's simply pressed into a row of nylon sockets. Take out the 2 Torx screws, and remember that the one in the front is the longer one.

Remove the mirror remote switch, and unplug the cable. Behind that is a screw you'll need to remove.

Starting at the bottom of the panel, pry the panel off the door. It's secured all around with these nylon fittings, which simply pop out. They remain intact and I've never had any of them break.

Finally, remove the whole panel from the window edge by pulling it directly out (not up). It's secured with these press-in metal tongues.

At the front of the door, the tweeter housing is covered by the plastic strip, which extends all the way down to the bottom. In the front of the strip, around the door binges, there are two plastic pegs that must be released. After taking out these plugs, you'll be able to peel back the whole strip, revealing the tweeter chamber.
