Winter tires: I have Pirelli P210's in 225/50HR16 size on ACT model LS wheels, under $1200 the package from Tire Rack. Very satisfactory in snow, and pretty reasonable wet or dry. Handling obviously isn't comparable to the stock MXX3, but pretty decent for a winter tire and unlike Blizzaks they have a decent speed rating.

I'd seriously doubt the practicality of running R1s for street use though...
