Although (as your 98 will) my 96 M3 came with the staggered front/rear
wheel sizes, I chose the same size all round for winter use. The wheels
are ACT model LS from Tire Rack in 16x7.5 size. Frankly I chose them
because they were very inexpensive at only US$119 each. The design turned
out to be quite good looking, a polished basketweave. Don't know whether
they're still available, Tire Rack can advise or offer alternatives.
Using 16" wheels in winter protects your rims better and offers a more
compliant ride over icy ruts.
Tires are Pirelli P210 in 225/50HR16.
