Subject: <E36 M3> Sachs Coilovers first impression
A couple days ago I just installed the Sachs coilovers from BMP on my '97 M3. I
selected them after I had a long, and informative, discussion with Anthony. Now,
I am glad I did. Quality wise, the parts looked good to my untrained eye. They
are TUV approved.
The ride is definitely firmer but, as other people have said, not harsh. You
will feel much more road imperfections but it will not rattle your teeth.
Unfortunately, I can only compare the ride with the stock one but Anthony says
that it is much easier on people that the Bilstein sports & H&R spring setup.
The front coils are rated at 215lbs per inch and the rears at 395lbs per inch
actual working spring rate. Overall, the car feels very solid with minimum roll
in turns. It inspires much more confidence. I am still using the stock sway
bars.
Both the front and rear coils are height adjustable without removing anything
(except the wheels, of course). These facts are very important for me as I like
things simple and stupid. In addition, I do not like to hit on things (like,
when the car is really low)... This is just a silly rule I've made long time
ago. Currently, I have the front and rear set to about .5 inch lower than stock.
For driver schools, I'll lower both ends as long as they go, without hitting
(about 1.5 inch more).
Now I waiting for Anthony to get adjustable Camper plates for me... (Anthony,
are you reading this?). I can not wait to try this setup at the next driving
school.
Theo.
