Subject: re: KDS Alignment
Deja Vu... I went around and around looking for shops that had "KDS alignment"
for my 94 E36.
What I discovered is that noone had a KDS system. I spoke at great length with
BMW, and Performance suspension shops to little info. I spoke with a man at
Dinan, I forgot his name--I believe he was srvc manager (very english). What
we discovered is that there are several 'KDS' systems. Bear (Baer?) was one of
the most prominent used, if my memory serves me. Computer alignment systems
with databases can be considered KDS, the ones with BMW specs apparently call
for special weights to be applied.
Searching for a 'KDS' system proved to be a white elephant hunt for me...
Instead of getting stuck on the name, I asked for what it is I wanted done.
This helped CONSIDERABLY.
I'm not sure how necessary the pre-loading is, but Dinan already has the
numbers pre-determined for the weighted situation so they don't have to do it
each time.
In the end I was told there were no adjustments for rear alignment on my E36
unless I wanted Dinan to custom align. So typically a 4 wheel alignment
consisted of a 4 wheel alignment CHECK, but only a front wheel adjustment.
I hope this helps, if not. By all means call Dinan in Mountain View, Ca. If
the alignment system has a database and is computerized it most likely will be
what you want.

MARCO WROTE:
Longtime lurker, firstime posting. We have had a difficult time finding a
solution to alignment problems with my wife's 94 540iT. I seem to recall a
past posting regarding finding an alignment shop that has a KDS? machine
necessary for four-wheel alignment on Bimmers. Any help, recommendations
for shops in the Houston area, etc., greatly appreciated.
