though i've never actually gotten down there and tried myself (i've gotten lazy after installing so many stereos) EVERY single salesman in EVERY single store and EVERY single manufacturer rep i've asked at EVERY single IASCA stereo competition i've competed in (i guess i've asked a total of maybe 30 people?) has told me that 5.25 is as big a speaker as you can get down in the kick panel. that is unless you want to build up the kick panel and block your dead pedal (or make the speaker your dead pedal)

so... i believe them. i put 5.25s in my kick panels. and i cut 6.5 inch holes in my rear deck and mounted 6.5 in speakers back there.

but... if you try to fit 6.5s in there, tell me how it goes. there's a 99% chance i'm dumping my M3 and getting another and i'd love to put 6.5s in there if they'll fit...

There is always one exception to the rule. You can indeed fit a 6.5" in the kick panel. I did so in both of my M3s. I am using the MB Quart Q-series 6.5" and tweeter set. There was some cutting required but I did not have to build up the kick panel. It all fit behind the stock speaker location. This was with the tweeter mounted like a coaxial too. The fit is very simple and you can see it_at_www.m3power.com If you have anymore questions about it email me back.
