Rob,
Sorry to see this was a miserable experience for you. I don't know the
layout of the Euro Airbox / Snorkel / Heat Shield as it comes from BMW, but
I put together a straight K&N Cone filter setup (no airbox), and a homemade
cold air duct that does the same thing as the snorkel (same access points),
together with a heat shield I made from sheet metal (A/C Ducting). I was
able to install and engineer all of it in about 90 minutes for a total cost
of $ 80.00 or so. Works like a charm and my butt duno tells me I am seeing
some gains from it. Don't give up! Just re-engineer a bit!
My system does not look factory, more like N.H.R.A., but I just cover the
tacky sheet metal with a couple of racing stickers and it is fully
functional without having to relocate the charcoal cannister ( just have to
move one of the two horns in the fenderwell).
IMHO, the E36 M3 is very cold air sensitive and the gains for this are well
worth the effort.
