Subject: Re: Mutant ///M3 and Early ///M3's and '98 changes
Chris:
Your M3 is not a mutant. Daytona Violet was a regular M3 color in 94-95
production. It was replaced by Techno Violet in 95-96, I believe in the 3.2
changeover. Forged wheels became available early in the model year, likely
6/94 or so. These were not chromed or polished, but were painted with the
same embossed Motorsport logo as the stock 10-spokes, only 7.5 and 8.5 inches
wide. They came with the same size tires as the 10-spokes (235/40-17). Sounds
like the roundels and chrome wheels are aftermarket or dealer installed, as
were the stripes.
OBC was not available on early production cars, nor was the Lux package.
I have a 2/94 production Daytona Violet ///M3, #00016, and I saw #00017 _at_
Dinan in May, also DV.
Are there any other early production cars out there? The running changes
to the M are amazing. Tilt wheels disappeared early on, and the OBC appeared
about the same time. The M3 brochure changed about 4 times during the model
year, but looked the same.
New changes for '98: side bags; rear headrests (on shelf); no Lux pkg; no
Byzanz paint, but no new colors so far; Power M seats an option on coupe
( the Msport seats were powered in the M-tech 325iS of 94, and early
factory M3 literature mentioned powered seats- I think BMWNA left them out to
keep the price down); Slushmatic only available on the 4dr; and evidently you
can get the Msport seats in the 2dr in Mulberry or Magma starting 11/97 prod.
Any other /// 000 cars out there, please email me or the digest.
TIA
Lee
