Subject: Finally my sports seats are comfortable!

Well, having suffered through a year trying to find a set of stock front seats for my 96 328iS without success I decided to take the drivers seat out of my car and do some work on it. I was able to place additional padding in the seat back all the way down near the bottom. I used some carpet padding which worked just fine. This keeps my butt from sliding too far back in the seat and having it aggravate my lower back. I also add about 3/8 inch of padding in the upper back area, around the shoulder blades.

The seat bottom was a little more work. I had to remove the leather and then I took out the forward metal rod that goes across at the seam. This rod was cutting into the back of my legs and pinching the sciatic nerve in my right leg. I then add about 1/2 inch of padding to the back 2/3 of the cushion. This seats me a little higher in the seat and prevents the bolsters from rubbing on and irritating my right hip joint.

I guess I just don't have enough fat on my butt for these seats. The whole process took about 2 hours and knowing what I now know I probably wouldn't have had to take the seat out to do the job. I am sure I will be making some minor adjustments to the cushion, but finally I can really enjoy my car.
