To replace light bulb of the ins. cluster on an E36, all you have to do is remove the 2 screws behind the steering wheel and pull out the plugs behind the cluster. I know it says on most manuals to remove the whole damn (excuse) plastic cover on top of the steering wheel, air vent ...etc. But that is NOT necessary.
