There are two types of BMW illuminated leather shift knobs that I know of. I prefer the /// one over the ///M one. I came up with the following, looking to replace the ///M one in my '00 M coupe with the /// one.

The /// one 25 11 2 231 551 retails for $117.00
The ///M one 25 11 2 231 550 retails for $117.00

The above knobs come with the two wires coming out the bottom with a connector. You can simply cut off the connector and connect the two wires to the same colored wires in the shift console area. Gray/red = dimmed lighting and brown = ground.

If you want the ///M one with the harness that goes to the dimmed lighting control (on certain models like the E36 and some 5 series), order 25 11 2 231 561 which retails for $114.25.

If you want the /// one with the harness 25 11 2 231 549 it cedes to the ///M 25 11 2 231 561 number so you will not get the /// one. So, if you want the /// one and the harness you have to order the /// knob above, plus harness 61 12 2 231 560 which retails for $23.25.

You can also purchase both types with integrated leather boots for certain model cars like the E30 and E36. My buddy Alan has the /// one in his 325IX. I didn't go there.

If you have an illuminated knob that someone cut the connector off the replacement connector is 61 13 1 378 106 which retails for $1.40. For this connector you will need two male pins 61 13 1 376 191 which retail for $0.40 each.

If you want to hard wire the knob and be able to unplug it when you remove the knob boot, etc., the mating connector for the knob's connector is 61 13 1 378 108 which retails for $1.20. For this connector you will need two female pins 61 13 1 376 202 which retail for $1.17 each.
