Subject: Lets M3 Wing my '96 E36
From the installation manual for the E36 BMW M3 rear wing part # 51 71 2 260
317. The down force added by its weight is 2.0 kg (4.4092 lb). This additional
weight is accommodated by the trunk lid stock gas shocks. If you can measure
accurately the rear wing is not that difficult to install. I did this myself
to control the quality. I located the hole points strictly by measurement. The
method recommended by the instructions requires two people. I did not feel
comfortable with this method. The instructions dimension for the brake light
wiring hole is incorrect. Before you drill holes in your trunk, make sure
(measure 100 times) that is where you want them to be. Install it. If its
right, remove it and have it painted. Then reinstall. I connected the wing
brake light to my added brake lights/left rear fog. This gives you two
separate systems of three lights that go on together if modified properly and
still maintains the stock check system. There are no M3 markings on this wing.
Part of my initial purchase agreement was 33% off of true retail on all
accessories and maintenance parts. The wings $580.50 retail, cost me $388.94.
Painting was an additional $150.00. Looks good.
