Subject: Re: Foglights removal.

Michael (did not get original poster),

I just broke a fog light retaining latch (don't know what it's really called -- small black latch that locks the fog light in place) and when trying to figure out how to replace it I took out my other fog light. I found it really easy to do ('97 M3). Just reach down inside the engine bay, feel for the black latch, and push it outwards. Fog light pops right out. 30 seconds, no damage, no problems. It may be a little harder if you don't have one fog light off to begin with (to see how it works) but with a flashlight and a little bit of fiddling you should be able to find the right latch. It is on the inside of the assembly (toward the cars centerline) and is black (as opposed to the gray or beige of the assembly -- my car anyway) and should be visible from on top. Note: DON'T FORCE IT -- it only took light (no pun intended) pressure to pop it out. If you are pushing hard, you are probably pushing on the wrong tab, or in the wrong direction (wrong side of the latch).

Again, don't force it. Taking the time to get under the car is better than breaking the latch.

Good luck,
