Hi Kelly,
My experience is that the dealer will sometimes replace it under warentee. They call it the pencil test, if you can fit a pencil tip into the crack, it's caused by a stone from the road, owner pays. If you can't fit the pencil tip in, it's a thermal crack and BMW pays.
