Subject: Side Marker Lights

"Goldstein, Robert" WROTE:
Ok...I need some help.

I bought some side marker lights for my 1994 325ic. The car did not come with them and obviously there were no holes drilled to mount them in either.

The lights look great but I am now being told by the body shop that it is too difficult to mount them and I will end up buying two new fenders. So, the question is...Has anyone updated their 3'series with side marker lights and if so, how difficult was it?

I may just return these parts if I cannot find anyone to mount them.

Robert, I have done the job twice in the past 10 years. First a 318i = 1984 and 2 years ago a 1990 535i.
It took me maybe 3 careful hours and I was slow and carefull especially = at cutting time! I used a Dremel tool because you have to cut a = rectangle hole. It was a clean cut with the cutting wheel. Great care must be exercised in the LOCATION of the hole. Look and = measure up a new car. Then note that the light goes in and slides 1/2" = to the seated position. Still before cutting look behind the sheet = metal and be sure nothing is in the way. The bulb sticks back with the = connector like 2" or so.
Then I simply spliced into the turn signal wires on the way out to the = signals. I wrapped my wire in a split loom that looks pretty much OEM. = The ground from your new bulb just mounts to the chassis for ground = somewhere. The other to the signal.
If you are not a handyman with the car and tools dont do it. But be very = careful who does it. If they mess up you killed your fender.
