Subject: Re: [E36M3] Creaking clutch

Your dealer probably performed what I like to call the "exercise in futility" lube job (i.e. pulled down the knee panel and sprayed lube around the clutch pedal pivot pin). This type of lube job does nothing to reduce clutch pedal squeak and is a complete waste of time. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP E36 CLUTCH PEDAL SQUEAK IS TO REMOVE THE PEDAL AN INDIVIDUALLY LUBRICATE THE CLUTCH PEDAL, PIVOT PIN, AND PLASTIC BUSHING. Removal of the clutch pedal is a pain in the ass hence most mechanics use the futility lube method so they can pass it off to the next mechanic when the car inevitably returns.
