Subject: <E36> 325-to-M3 brake conversion *FINAL* update
I just got my car with M3 brakes all around. As I wrote before (see
previous post below), the rear brakes require much more parts. Basically,
you have to change everything from the diff flanges out. The suspension
parts do not need change. I am glad I did all four sides, it would drive me
crazy otherwise... (yes, I am anal and proud of it ???...)

The work was done in Orange County, S. California at Precision Motors.
Their mechanic "Bob" is a great guy. Email me if you need more info.

     ----------- Previous Post -------------------------------

     Well,

I am almost over with the 325-to-M3 brake conversion and I have
some definite ideas about it. I decided to have a BMW service
place to do it for me since it requires air tools and (maybe)
some specialized BMW tools. My car has the BMW Sport suspension
package and I added the 17" forged BMW wheels.

     Front Brakes:
What you need is everything from the wheel bearings and out. It
just fits in the existing parts with no problem. You do need 17"
wheels. Hours to do it, ~2-3.

     Rear Brakes:
This is where it requires much more parts. You must change the
swing arms and the half shafts in addition to everything from the
wheel bearings and out. The M3 hardware are much beefier and the
bearings are much bigger. Hours to complete, I am not sure yet...

I purchased all the 1995 M3 parts used for ~$1200. 70% of the
cost is for the rear brakes... Some people change just the front
brakes but I could not stand looking at the solid, tiny, rear
brakes. Is the upgrade worth it? I would do it again. The M3
brakes, and accompanying hardware, are much better than the
standard 325/328 ones. This is a great safety upgrade.
