Subject: Performance Friction 90 pad impressions
I saw more postings on pads, so I am going to give my impressions:
I drove with Cool Carbons blue, stock E36 M3 and PF 90.
The Cool Carbons are agressive to the rotors and even more agressive
to the rims. I dont like them, but they are inexpensive and they last
on the track. They also fit very well.
OEM pads are the best street / AutoX pads money can buy.
Perfmomance Friction 90 compound (race):
Cold performance is as good as OEM pads
Highway/AutoX is as good as OEM.
Race / *hard* driving school is PERFECT.
The stock M3 pads are the best street pads on Earth. Only If you drive
hard at the track, you should think about race pads. Otherwise you
really loose braking power. I could not really understand that, until
I felt it myself.
Rotor life is actually LONGER (the micrometer doesnt lie) with the PF
90 pads! I cant really explain it, but PF says that the fresh pads on
fresh rotors create a carbon surface that is stickier and protects the
iron surface. It really works ...
I use the floating rotors with braided lines and ATE blue all around
and braking (after a good warmup) is unbelievable.
Hard street driving (that would get you the death penalty in Texas)
or AutoX is not enough for warming up these pads. On the other hand
the PF 90s operate so much like the OEM pads ,even at stone cold temps.
Another plus is that the PF 90 pads are much much cleaner than the OEM
pads. They produce a fine dust ,that wipes easier and accumulates
slower.
One problem with the PF 90 (and all true race pads) is noise. The
screach. Not too loud, but a valet will frown.
But like I said before, my only big problem with the PF 90s is the
lack of the clips that attach them to the caliper. Consequently the
pads rattle all the time, and the noise is aggrevating.
At every bump, road crack there is rattling from every wheel well.
Really un-BMW-like.
Again, I am looking for a home remedy (gotta check the book "1001 uses
of Duct tape") .
Any pointers ?
Best regards
Vlasis
