Subject: <E36>Parking Brake Cracked..Again
Good Evening BMW Heads,
About 5 months ago, I began to get a very loud and annoying clicking
noise from the rear end of my '94 325isA (at the time, 70k miles). I
took the car to my dealer who said that the E-brake shoes were cracked.
They usually let me check out how they do work, and of course, the tech,
a friend of mine, showed me a hairline crack in the shoe between what I
assume is the shoe bracket and the actual material (a sort of metal
nasty looking composite stuff). The shoes were replaced (not cheep
either) and the clicking went away. Now, the car is up to (94k miles)
and the clicking is back again. (yup, 24k miles in 5 months, anyone who
says BMWs aren't addictive.. well).
Does anyone know why the shoes would be cracked again? I was told that
it was heat which did the damage in the first place, and since, I have
been very conservative (nope, no more cool hand brake turns) and only
use the thing to park (there's novel idea!). Is there any sort of an
upgrade I can replace the stock system with that might improve on the
(according to my friends in the know) badly designed system?
Thanks in Advance!
Greg Koenig
P.S.
The FIA GT race was very cool at Laguna Seca, and sorry to say, but the
CLK-GTR is so wicked, it stole my heart!
