Subject: E36 M3 - BIG BRAKE KIT

For a Big Brake upgrade consider KVR Performance, in Ottawa Canada, 800-636-0854, ask for Terry Gosse. A few weeks ago some other members of the Lone Star Chapter helped me install this kit on my car. I have a '95 M3, with a few other mods, so the natural progression is to keep going until you run out of money or breath.

These brakes were VERY EASY to install. We had no problems. Every thing fit perfect - I did have to trim my backing plates slightly. These are really easy to trim with basic sheet metal shears. Use a file afterward to smooth any rough edges. You may have to bend yours back a little for rotor clearance, this is not difficult.

I have the Luxury Package on my car, and the M Contour wheels don't have enough clearance between the face of the caliper and inside of the spokes. So, I had to use spacers. And THE SPACERS MUST BE HUB-CENTRIC!!

KVR sent me 2 really nice, 3/8 inch, one piece, machined spacers - but it was more than I needed. I got two 3/16 inch, 2 piece units from Race Marque Systems that work perfectly. Their 2 piece design will force you to take off the grease caps from your front hubs. This was the toughest part of the whole job - I said it was EASY. Race Marques' design is similar to Dinan's but they reverse the metals used for the spacer and the hub adapter from Dinan to prevent alloy wheels from "bonding" to the hub adapter part, at least that was their explanation There's were less expensive than Dinan also. The whole thing was a perfect fit. No sloppy fitments.

Brake Kit Components - 13 inch, 2 piece rotors, with aluminum hats. Can be either cross-drilled or slotted for same price. These come assembled, balanced and torqued to spec. Two, BIG, 4 piston, aluminum AP Racing calipers, with anti-chatter springs (the springs do work). 6 piece stainless steel brake lines from Goodridge. Hawk HPS pads (I think) , 1 liter of Agip brake fluid (But I used ATE, Blue). All mounting bolts needed - only 2 per side!!

Price is about $1,800, U.S. dollars based on recent exchange rate.

Impressions so far, after 400 miles. No noise. Less dusting than original pads, I 'm serious. No pad chatter. Noticeably firmer brake pedal, I really like the firmer pedal. Stops as well as, and as easy as originals, in stop & go traffic. Have not had a chance to put it on a track yet. Drivers School is later in the year.

I painted my calipers, red, to match the car and I got the cross-drilled rotors - for appearances. These things really look great. I'd recommend the kit.
