If your rotors are heavily scored or burned, there's no need to take any
measurements...simply replace the rotors. If you're getting a slight
pulsing through the pedal and you think it might be your rotors, you can
take a brake disk caliper (one with pointed anvils to measure scored and
unscored surfaces) and take measurements at various points (at least 8
points within the brake pad contact area of the rotor). Thickness on a new
front E36 rotor (non-M3) is approx .860"......runout of .008" or greater
will probably be felt when braking. New quality rotors typically have
.001-.002" variances out of the boxes. (Note: a good digital brake rotor
caliper will cost around $300.00) SD
