Pull harder. Straight up on the forward edge.. wiggle it a bit so you can get your fingertips under it. There is a sliding sorta catch about 10" in from each outer edge of the seat.

Was a bear the first time I did it also - now it's easier. Be careful once it comes free to work it around the plastic thingies around the seat belt attachment points.

You'll be surprised at how much is under the seat - you'll find relays, black boxes and fuses you never knew you had. I kinda like it there - it's protected from the elements and in a somewhat controlled environment.

In my M5 (w/split rear seat) I just jerk up sharply on the front edge. It may be that you're being too nice. After you get the front edge loose, just slide it forward out from under the seat belt ends.
