Just some brief additions to Jeff Schnellinger's reply in Digest 7.223:

When you replace the mounts, use those intended for the E30 cabrio (convertible). They're a direct replacement and beefier. Also, don't forget to replace the paper gaskets at the same time. Added cost is probably around $2.
