The instructions BMW supplied with their E36/2 electric vent window kit
includes the following caution:
CABLE LAYING In order to prevent faults and errors, keep to the cable
routes provided in the vehicle.
The German original is more stern.
For this job, the "provided cable route" is inside the electrical
raceway underneath the carpet. Its covers can be lifted off once the
driver's seat has been removed.
Is this just a case of the factory being excessively fastidious or are
there long term wear and tear problems if you don't keep to the
raceways? The carpet seems pretty well padded. On the other hand,
copper wire can only be worked a limited extent before it fails.
