Subject: Re: rotational inertia

My brother-in-law-to-be is a physics whiz, and we just did some napkin math on an E30 M3 flywheel. The stock wheel is 19lbs. If you reduce this to 14lbs, not only will the engine speed up much quicker for doublecluthing, but in first gear it gives the equivalent of 22 HP! In second it's only about 8 HP, but I wasn't looking for power, I was looking for quickness in the gear change. As it turns out, an '84 318i flywheel is, you guessed it, 14 lbs, and will bolt right into an M3. I just got one, and I'll let the list know when I get it installed and what it's like.
