Try replacing the coolant recovery tank cap. Another E30 M3 pilot had this same problem at a driver school this past spring and it turned out to be a worn out recovery tank cap. BTW, the replacement OEM metal caps for the E30 recovery tanks have been "upgraded" from the original version.
