Subject: RE:M42 profile gasket

If any of you are interested, I have a copy of the service bulletin that refers to the profile gasket, and will fax it to you. call me at work, 800 922-9300, ext 718. the bulletin stated that as of 10/93, new gaskets had been issued, but I know personally a BMW tech still at the dealer, and he had changed several on 95 cars, with less than 10k mi on them. most independent shops can do the job better for less than the dealer, the dealer will typically inflate the job, and then discount the cost. if you can negotiate with NA for an independent to do the work, you will end up spending a lot less. and yes, there is severe pitting(electrolysis) inside the head and associated parts. BEWARE!!!! before you even try to claim this job with BMW, drain your coolant and replace with BMW coolant, or they will refuse the job, because you didn't use "factory" coolant.
