BMW had problems with driveshaft balance on the 85-88 535i and included a vibration damper with the driveshaft. Some of the E30's used one as well. The damper is a wear item...I've sold quite a few over the years. It can presumably be eliminated by having the driveshaft rebalanced (without this add-on) by one of the Driveshaft specialty houses.
