Link for $79.95. Ouch! This seems pretty pricy for a small non-M/iX part,
especially one used on 5s 6s and 7s.
Is it possible to get just the bushings?
A second bushing question, how tough is it to replace the idler arm
bushings on an 88 535?
I remember it being a pain on some other cars I did it on years ago.
If your car is approaching 10 years of age, you should consider replacing
most of the rubber suspension components. These include the front control
arms (& bushings), tie rods, idler arm, sway bar links, sway bar bushings,
rear trailing arm bushings, rear pitman arms (trailing arm links), rear
subframe mounts, rear shock tower mounts and rear differential mount. The
front shock mounts should be inspected for cracks and the bearings checked
carefully when you're doing the struts (make sure and replace the spring
pads, bump stops & dust boots before putting back the struts).
I am not a big fan of urethane bushings...they are noisy, difficult to
install and do not do a very good job of absorbing/isolating vibration.
They are not factory approved anyway. Be careful with some of the
aftermarket parts...the rubber may not be the same shore hardness and the
ball joints (on the control arms) may be poorly made.
Regarding idler arm bushing replacement on E28/E24/E32/E34 cars....don't
bother. Just replace the whole arm with the bushing. The price is under
$30.00 for the factory part. SD
