Are you SURE that you want an ENCLOSED trailer? I thought that I did, too, but now that I have an open trailer, I doubt that I will go back.

I welcome other opinions, but I am a firm believer that an open trailer is the way to go.

Negatives to enclosed trailers:
1)it takes a bigger rig to tow a heavi(er) trailer. I have a 3/4 ton Chev turbo deisel with a 5 spd and a long wheelbase, and even it has to grunt and groan some going over Donner Summit. Imagine towing a trailer that weighs 1500 lbs more.
2)they cost MUCH more
3)closed trailers are much tougher to tow, due to rear vision and wind resistence. It costs more in fuel for the reasons of weight and wind resistence.
4)closed trailers are harder to back into parking spaces 5)closed trailers take up more space to store 6)you can't get underneath your car to work in a closed trailer like you can in some open trailers

I am sure that there are more negatives, but those are some. Here are the positives:
1)the trailer becomes a second garage
2)when you are traveling, your car and your gear are secure 3)you can store your tires and tools in the trailer (but you can do this in an open trailer, too). Also, with a truck with a camper, like I have (get a TALL one), you can store a ton of stuff 4)You bee kewler

I have an old work horse of an open trailer, and my next trailer, if there be one, will be a FANCIER open trailer.

YMI,

Carl

ps never try to tow your car on an open trailer with a car cover. I did, and the wind beat the hell out of the paint
