Subject: Bonus warranty extension

You may be pleasantly surprised if you visit your BMW dealer's service department to request a printout of a DCS DEALER VEHICLE INQUIRY for your VIN. You will receive a complete schedule of all repairs performed at dealerships anywhere in North America, by date, mileage, dealer number, repair order number and defect (by 10-digit code number). Any open campaigns pertaining to your car will also appear.

The first line may also contain a notation - DEMO. Mine reported: 03/005000, which meant the car was in "demo" status when new, and the warranty is thus extended for 3 months and 5,000 miles.

Since I was faced with a check engine light on this '93 740i due to code 13 (O2 sensor), I was anticipating changing them both out-of -pocket. I had just ordered two of the EZ fit 4-wire sensors from Rod Sidney of ALL BMW DISCOUNT PARTS (http://lochnet.com/bmw) when Dave responded from CIRCLE BMW (circlebmw_at_circlebmw.com) to offer the BMW original parts at a generous 25% discount. More important, he reminded me to check possible factory warranty since these are part of emissions. Because of the warranty extension due to demo status, Camelback BMW replaced both $133.35 sensors at n/c, labor included, gave me a loaner for the day -- and even washed the car. Check engine lite out, all codes clear. Thanks, Dave, for the great tip -- keep on "Digesting"!
