Subject: RE: Radar detectors

Stephen,

The ads are correct the V1 is the BEST by far. I owned the original Escort (sold) and Passport (stolen), both were the best back in the 80's. I tried various other models but was never impressed enough to purchase them. Two years ago, prior to a vacation across the US, I bought a V1, I figured if I didn't like it I would send it back after the trip. The trip was scheduled for 21 days and Valentine gives you a 30 day money back guarantee. Well, the V1 was great, over 7,000 miles in less than three weeks. I think the greatest features are the range and the radar locator, you quickly learn how to identify X-band false alarms from actual radar (because of the locator). We often set the cruise at 100mph between cities out west and had plenty of warning even from instant-on radar. My fiancée got the only ticket of trip on the last day in Ohio. She use to cruise in left lane. Well, she got shot with instant on, no warning! Now she understands why I kept saying only use the left lane to pass. BTW, the day she got nailed was the Sunday before Labor Day. High risk for speeders on big travel holidays.

If you drive intelligently, and understand how to properly use a radar detector, the V1 will not let you down. And I can tell you from experience that it will provide you with far superior performance than any other detector on the market today. I use the concealed display and have often slowed down because of a warning, only to watch another car w/ another brand of detector continue down the road only to nail the breaks 5 -10 seconds later. That additional amount of warning is worth the money in my book. A ticket will cost you a lot more, in the long run.

Just remember, no radar detector will save you from all radar traps or other forms of speed enforcement. It is definitely not a license to speed, but used effectively it can help you avoid most radar traps.

Just my opinion,

Used the V1 on recent trip to Indy, no tickets!
