DEC makes, in my opinion, the best of the aftermarket cats. However, put aside the cost issue and I'll take a factory BMW unit over any aftermarket catalyst anytime (and I'm a DEC distributor). DEC claims their catalytic converters to be freer flowing than BMW's but the BMW units are more solid and can probably take more abuse at driver's schools (full throttle for 20-30 minutes at a time). There are high performance cats available in Europe for spirited Autobahn driving but they are not certified for US sale and cost would be $2000-3000. DEC is the logical economic choice for most BMW's (freer flowing and quieter than any other aftermarket unit I know of) with pricing in the $300-500 range depending upon model. SD
