Subject: Electrical Problems

Just had an 88 735 customer come in with check bulb messages on his on board display. He had just paid $70.00 (about $30 too much) for a 9005, 9006 (high and low beam bulbs for the ellipsoid lights) and a halogen map light bulb and now the bulbs weren't working. Changed the LKM relay and still messages on the display. Checked the alternator and found out it was putting out 18v! Normal range 13.5-14.5max. The message here is to check the voltage first if you start electrical/bulb messages on your E32/E34 or E36 display before replacing any parts. SD {BTW, the customer said his wipers really went fast. If you need to replace the alternator, you'll have to identify if you've got a Bosch or Valeo and what amperage output you've got, 80/90/105/115/140a}
