Subject: Heat Shields

Please pay attention to heat shields when replacing rubber components on the right side of the engine. I just had a customer come back for the 3rd time within the last 12 months for motor mounts for his 318i. Upon inspecting his car, the right motor mount (located about 8-10 inches from the exhaust manifold) was destroyed. There was no aluminum heat shield...he had inadvertently left it off the first time he changed the mounts. The right mount failed miserably and then the left mount failed trying to stabilize the mass and torque. SD
