Subject: Brake Pad Bed in Procedure
People were asking about this subject recently on this digest. If you
put a new set of brake pads in and do not have the time to break them
in gently (like you put them in the night before a driving school).
This is the break in technique courtesy of Turner Motorsports of
Newburyport MA. I tried it with a set of metal masters and it worked
like a charm.
1:) Find yourself a deserted highway.
2:) Put the car in 3rd, and get it moving fast (at least 60 to 70mph)
3:) At the same time you are accelerating in 3rd, apply the brakes
(yes brakes and gas together).
4:) Do this until the brakes Fade to the point they will not stop the
5:) Then drive for a few miles (without using the brakes) to let it
all cool down.
6:) After things are really cooled down, repeat this whole procedure
one more time.
It might sound a little scary, but if there is no one around, it is
really not bad.
That's it your done, and ready for the track.
(Thanks to Will Turner)
