The yellow light should say "CHECK" and is supposed to come on each time you start the car and then go off as soon as you press the brake pedal. This is the fault system checking to be sure that your brake light circuit works. The idle is likely to be the idle control valve (ICV) that needs cleaning. If you want, we can help you do that. If not a good independent garage that works on BMW's can help out. The important things on any BMW are routine maintenance. Oil changes, tranny/diff fluid changes. Tune up's aren't too difficult and can be DIY projects. It really depends upon how you want to approach these issues.
