I have replaced my drive-shaft (same part number unit) due to shut u-joints, bad bearing, and Flex Disk. After replacing all of the components I ran into a problem.
When driving the traction Control I think is kicking in, as I get slippage and weird knocks. All goes away after pressing ASC, turning Traction Control off. This problem didn't exist with old drive-shaft. Does ASC needs to be reset or something is really wrong?
Does anyone know how tight the nut needs to be on the front side of drive-shaft before the Center Bearing? I tighten it pretty well when was assembling the unit. |

Was the replacement a new or used driveshaft?
I can't see how the driveshaft would create slippage like that. I don't know enough about the E36 cars to know exactly, but it would seem to me that you either have a bad driveshaft, or the flex disc is flexing too much.
Did you preload the driveshaft before tightening it up?
Hopefully some one else will jump in here, but the drivetrain like that should not do any slipping. It's just a flexible hard connection between the tranny and the differential. _________________ Cosmo - 1985 BMW 325e, Single Owner, 265,000+ ORIGINAL miles and still going strong! The replacement came from a donor car. The center bearing was replaced and u-joints inspected prior to me purchasing it.
The slippage was coming from differential with ASC turned on right after driveshaft replacement but immediately goes away when ASC is turned off. The slippage goes away on its own with ASC turned on after 5 minutes of driving but comes back after car is rested for a few hours.
I actually found the issue and looks like resolved for good. The big nut that connects the front and back driveshaft together was overtightened. I let it loos about 1/8 of the turn and now no issue at all but I haven't driven the car for extensive period yet as I am in the process of overhauling the entire front and rear suspension. |
