|
|
So, on my 1990 325i, the shocks and struts are mushy.
I was researching Bilsteins and liked what I heard about them.
The part numbers TC PNE-3050-BE7 BNE-1981-BE for one style
vs. HD P36-01367 B36-20284
I assume the HD are "heavy duty" and the the "TC" is "touring class".
I'm not interested in the SP sports class as I believe you have to change the springs as well?
Anyway, a few questions:
What is the difference between the HD and TC in handling and performance and is one really recommended over the other?
Next for installation I don't plan to do it myself as I have a mechanic that is reasonable. But do I need to get any other parts for the job while doing the replacement?
Also, are there recommended things that should be replaced while under the chassis?
Thanks! |

I really don't have too much experience with the touring class shocks and struts, other than they are supposed to be similar to what was installed at the factory.
I did install a set of Bilstein HD shocks and struts on my '88 325i Convertible. They replaced mushy originals. They have performed well and are a good fit for the car. First drive after replacing, I remember them being a little firmer than the worn out originals. If I had another car, I would do it again.
If you are replacing them, it would be a good idea to install new strut mounts up front and upper shock mounts on the rear. Also, might be a good time to check your control arm bushings, ball joints, and tie rod ends on the front end. |

Agree with dt325 on all points.
Think the touring class are a bit firmer than stock, but not HD range. I've HD's on my 90i, been pleased.
