Has anyone purchased a replacement cap for the windshield wash reservoir?
It's a bit puzzling. The new cap does not have a connector ring that holds it onto the reservoir. It's simply a rubber cap that pushes onto the reservoir. And it doesn't stay on very tight.
Is there a trick to keeping this cap on?

On a more serious note, do you think the part you have now is complete? Perhaps it's missing a piece or was made wrong?
Maybe try a thin rubber band around the lip of the reservoir port? _________________ 1984 325e 5-speed coupe

the rubber band idea is a pretty good one. it might work.
for now, I just put the old cap back on, it is the original cap that uses a plastic collar to hold it on.
I don't think I'm missing any part. I bought both the reservoir and the cap from the dealer at the same time and the parts diagram doesn't indicate there's anything else required.
very strange though.

I'm pretty good at rigging stuff in a pinch. But my Dad is the master. He once drove his 1979 450SLC with a broken throttle cable 40-miles with a piece of wire run through the window. _________________ 1984 325e 5-speed coupe

the era our fathers grew up in was a time where they needed to find creative (re: cheap) ways to keep things running, because there was very little alternative.
I fixed the mower once by simply buying a $2.00 spark plug. My brother said it was just like Dad would have done, and I joked back that no, he would have cleaned the spark plug and not spent a single cent.
I feel like a throwback sometimes though. I still listen to vinyl records.
Not in the car though

Yah, the ugly black plastic cap is what the sell as a replacement now.
You can sometimes clean up the stock one with hot water, soap and scrub brush. As it's often stained by the coloring in the windshield washer fluid.
