|

In my eta there are 4 sender units in my thermostat housing! On my 91 there is only two . Anyway, I am having a hard time determining which one is the sender for the temp gage? I can probably just go see which one only is one pin....but I want to get a more accurate answer from someon more knowledgeable.
Diagram here:

I am guessing part#12 is th temp gage sender, and #13 is the sender for the ECU?
Also, I need to replace my thermostat. Should I get 71,75,or 80ºC temperature? Im thinking of just going down the middle and getting 75ºC since we dont have extreme weather cold/hot.
Thanks for the help. _________________ -Nick

Yes, #12 is the part, only it does not look like the picture. It has regular sensor appearance only one pin inside. As I recall it's also brown color, in contrast to blue ecu sender.
There isn't any faster and more definite way to check it, than unplugging and seeing if it has only one pin inside. (Also I assume your gauge will go "crazy" either low or high =) _________________

Nick,
I think you've already got this info, but for everyone's future reference for an ETA with 4 temp sensors:
84-87 325/325e ETA
http://bmwfans.info/original/E30/2-T/325e-M20/USA/L/M/1983/11/mg-11/ill-11_0759/
a) #16 [13 62 1 274 630] thermo time switch,(35 Degrees(C) 8 Seconds) runs the cold start injector
b) #15 [12 63 1 279 722] on/off switch, signals ICU and Motronic 1.0 when engine is warm
c) #13 [13 62 1 357 414] (blue) One with 2 connections goes to the Motronic ECU. (20CEL 2500 OHM)
d) #12 [62 11 0 788 115] (brown) One with a 1 connection goes to the temp gauge.(spade connector)
87-91 325i(88 super eta is similar)

c) #13 [13 62 1 357 414] (blue) One with 2 connections goes to the Motronic ECU. (20CEL 2500 OHM)
d) #12 [12 62 1 710 512] (brown) One with a 1 connection goes to the temp gauge.(square bosch connector)

I know this is an old thread, so my apologies, but the (short) #15 on my car only has one pin, a spade connector, and it's very difficult to get to.
When it's cold outside, my car runs fine. When it's warm, the car will sputter and die usually about a minute or two after starting. It will do it while driving down the road.
I suspect one of these sensors is bad, but which one? Some of them are very expensive! _________________ 1984 325e 5-speed coupe
