this is my second posting so I hope some one can help me.

I have an e36 1993 325i
the problem started with the car turning over but would not start. after a few minutes of trying to start it it would fire right up.
this happens whether it hot or cold.
upon starting the idle is either fluctuates between. 1k to 25k rpms, or it will hold around 3k rpms for about 30 seconds then it will either come down to normal, or it will stabilize around 1500 rpms.
some times the car will fire right up without any problems.
the other problem i have is it will occasionally stall while im driving,
I will coast to the shoulder turn off the key and then it will start it right up.
ive chcked vaccum lines even replacing them, I am getting fuel, and a spark.
my check engine light also has come on sporadically.
when i do the gas pedal test. im getting the code for the purge valve.
1263.
ive checked it for blockage, its getting constant power.
there is the ticking noise going on when its at operating temp.
i have replaced the water temp. sensor, camshaft sensor, the fuel pump, feul pump relay, ive checked the crankshaft position sensor, ive checked for cracks on the maf boot, air filter, park plugs.
I dont know how to touble shoot the the purge valvle, and I really need some guidance.

I might be wrong, but could this be your idle control valve (ICV)? If so cleaning it or replacing it might do the trick.
