Hi,
My 98 740i came without a CD changer. I picked one up on eBay.
P/n 65128361058. I hooked it up and it has power and display but no sound. Not playing. I can nav up and down, at the dash, thru a disc and disc to disc. Just no sound.
My audio system is the DSP type. 2 connectors in the back of the CD changer, round 14 pin DIN connector and 2 pin power connector.
Do I have the wrong changer?

Much thanks,
Rick

The ETK lists P/N 65 12 8 375 836 for mfr date after 9/98.

For 9/98 and earlier, 65 12 8 361 663.

Don't know what other P/Ns will work.

Did the seller say this was for an E38?

Did you find the correct mating cables for the player in the trunk? My E39 has just a 3-pin and 6-pin header connectors; no DIN.

Maybe it's busted.

Yeh, maybe it's broken. The seller did say E38 fit. Good working shape.
My car is 3/98 mfg date.
And I bought the same P/N the online catalog states.
I will check ETK.

Is the "premium sound system" the DSP version?

Thank you,
You have been a huge help to me with all of my questions.

Rick

DSP sound system has a "DSP" button on the control panel, which calls up the spectrum settings.

You must not have received a user manual with the car. Suggest you get a set, since this model is LOADED with all sorts of electronic "wonders".

I have all the manuals, including the audio system operators one.
What is confusing is, there are 2 CD changer part numbers. One for a standard issue radio and one for the high end system. The manual calls it "Top" stereo, some parts refs call it "Premium" or "IBUS".
I don't know what I have other than it is DSP with the equalizer and sounds good.

What is sort of straight forward is the harness connections in my car.
They accept only one of the 2 options.

One thing I may have done wrong is trying the unit before mounting it on the bracket.
It was laying flat on my trunk floor.
Perhaps it needs to be in the normal vertical position to work?

I will go to the local dealer and see if they can offer any help.

Thanks,
Rick

I have seen instructions for changer installation. They show a setting of some kind on the end of the changer, which is set to either horizontal or vertical mount. Don't know if yours has one, or if it really makes a difference.

The previous owner of my car removed the changer to install in his new 3 series.

Man !
You are batting 1000!
There are 2 settings on each side of this changer. Very poorly marked but one position for vert. one for horiz.
I did not mess with those but I tipped the unit on end and gave it a shot.

Works well.

Thanks again,

Rick : Very Happy
