I just purchased a 1999 Z3 2.3. Why is it called a Z3 2.3 when the engine is a 2.5? _________________ Z34ME |

M52 Engines 2.3(on Z's) have the same cc. as the M54's called 2.5 or 325.
The reason is that BMW in order to get lower emmissions out of the 325 original 325engines basically changed the intake manifold with a smaller one and placed a different set up to the E.C.U.
So we have:
M50 -2.5lt with Vanos or not with an outpout of 192hp(older type engines)
M52 -2.5lt with Singe Vanos Unit and an outpout of 169/171hp
M54 -2.5lt with Double Vanos System with 192/198hp
Therefore BMW uses the term 2.3 or 323 for the same engine displacement but with lower emissions, lower outpout, better low end torgue and increased fuel economy.
Hope this helps a little. |
