I felt some glasses laying right in front of the heater control on my 2001 740il and they were hot.
I felt the drink holder and it was hot also.
Any ideas?

I have a good friend who has worked on BMWs for 15 years and now is svc writer for BMW and he told me that the reason the console gets hot below drink holders is that there are tons of wires passing through and not to worry.
He has never been wrong to me in 20 years.
