|
|
Have had Isabelle up on jack stands all winter, now that the weather is starting to get nice, I'm getting motivated to finish my projects on the car so I can go for a ride in the sun! Plus the first autocross is at the end of the month!
I installed a new oil pan gasket, there was oil everywhere under the car. Also the power steering hoses are leaking, I think new clamps will solve that.
I also replaced my motor mounts. One was nearly busted all the way through! I used part # 11 81 1 132 322 the one from the E3,E9,E12,E24,M1. You have to grind of the extra nub. I've also got some new transmission mounts to go in.
The car was painted sometime before I bought it, and the paint didn't stick well to the valance, so I'm going to try and find someplace that can fix it.
Also I got a "is" lip spoiler that I'll paint at the same time and install.
I'm now sure I was riding on the strut bump stops as well. I had a new set of sport shocks, so I put one side in and left the other side with the HDs. The side with the sport bounced better (no sudden stiffness at the lower end of the downstroke). Here is a picture of the HD next to the sport.
Here is my spring compressor. I wish I had a hydraulic one
I've also got to fix the leather on my rear seat. Taking it off wasn't that hard. Now I have to find a place that can repair it.
Since my last pictures, I've also installed a rear spoiler.

Wow, that is quite a few projects you've got going on there. What else did you do to that thing this winter that kept you from finishing these? Or was it more the unwillingness to work on it in a cold garage? _________________

Well, a lot of stuff, I have a habit of procrastinating.
Also forgot to mention a valve adjustment, and painting the valve cover. I'm planning on sanding down the letters and ribs so they are silver. Hopefully it will look good when I'm done.

Hey John, Looks like fun! I've got a spoiler I'm planing to install... Tell me what was your painting solution? If you had it done at a shop, would you share the experience?

I plan on taking the bits over to a local body shop that has been recommended by many friends. I don't know yet how much to expect to pay, hopefully not a ton.
What is wrong with the spoiler you have? Looks nice to me! _________________

Got a friend who powder coats. He glass beaded it, then coated it. I have access to a machine shop and fly cut the excess off.
What do you think? _________________

That's what I hope mine will look like!
However I just used some semi-gloss engine enamel, and will have to use some hand sanding or maybe hand tools to shave off the top layer of paint and metal.

John, Not my lip. I'm talking about the rear deck spoiler you put on.

Ah, I see said the blind man as he picked up his hammer and saw...
The hardest part of putting on the rear spoiler was drilling the holes in the trunk! Not that the holes were hard to drill, it was just really hard to get up the courage to drill holes in an otherwise perfect trunk lid! _________________

I was thinking the same thing. That must have been hard to do, but it looks great!
I have my steering rack, power steering reservior and hoses, timing belt, water pump, and shocks on my spring list. I've already done the front disks and rotors.
Good luck with yours! _________________

I am finishing up my winter project. Intrax lowering springs, Bilstein Sports, shock mounts, sway bar links, new control arms and bushings, tie rods and adjusting the valves. Figured if I have to take the cover off might as well impose upon my friends to do that job on my valve cover. _________________
