NEW YORK -- Oil prices rose above $69 a barrel Tuesday amid concerns that Iran's nuclear standoff and violence in Nigeria could hurt supplies, as well as interest in a new fund which allows individual investors to participate in the energy markets.
Light, sweet crude for May delivery rose 36 cents to $69.10 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange in morning trading, after rising to a new seven-month intraday high of $69.45 earlier. The contract had risen $1.35 to settle at $68.74 on Monday. |

Higher Gas Prices Predicted This Spring
By Bill Brubaker
Washington Post Staff Writer
Tuesday, April 11, 2006; 3:45 PM
Gas prices will be higher this spring and summer than last year, and news of any developing hurricanes and tropical storms could send them rising more late this summer, a federal government report said today.
Or...from the same article: "Some analysts said the Energy Department's April-through-September forecast could be too low given that gasoline prices are already at the predicted level and, as the department's analysts noted, there are still risks of new hurricanes and political strife."

..."Oil hits record above $72 on Iran fears
By Janet McBride
Reuters
Tuesday, April 18, 2006; 3:34 PM
LONDON (Reuters) - Oil hit a record $72.64 a barrel on Tuesday as Iran defied world pressure to halt its nuclear program, raising new fears of a cut in supplies from the world's fourth-biggest crude exporter."
And don't ever say you hadn't a clue. Or a raison du jour*. Or a choice.
And remember Natural Gas costs...And remember that 80% of Natural Gas is from Domestic Wells. (I'm just thinking of next winter...when that first Snoflake falls...ah, the purity and sanctity of that blessed, heavenly Snoflake...). Hey, snow falls. Some ski, some ice skate and some melt. Just remember...most natural gas used here comes outta Our ground. Think about it when you want to blame someone or find that certain reason.
Of course, if you are so fortunate as to realized a 100% pay increase in the past 20 months to cover the $35 or so up to $72 or so then this is of no interest.

Oil futures prices surged to a record yesterday, settling above $70 a barrel amid concern over Iran's nuclear program and continuing shortages in production in Nigeria.
Mary Altaffer/Associated Press
Oil futures traders at the New York Mercantile Exchange yesterday.
Crude oil for May delivery rose $1.08, to $70.40 a barrel, the highest level at the end of a trading session since the contract was introduced on the exchange in March 1983. The price was short of an intraday high of $70.85 a barrel touched on Aug. 30, after Hurricane Katrina shut down production in the Gulf of Mexico.
The price of crude oil has translated into high retail gasoline prices for drivers even before the summer spike in demand. Across the country, regular gasoline now averages $2.78 a gallon, 24 percent more than at this time last year, according to AAA, the national consumer automotive group. In some regions, service stations are posting prices above $3 a gallon, and most analysts expect further increases in coming months.

In a oil-dependant economy, guess who has a good bit of power?
