ok its my sons car but here is the problem, it starts and runs great then out of the blue it runs like its on 4 cylinders then it clears itself back up. Sometimes its starts rough and then smooths out. Thinking maybe fuel filter or plug wires but any help would be appreciated. Nothing showing up on dash, no check engine light or warnings.Thanks for any input

Vacuum leak from a split hose; OR, a dirty or defective idle control valve.
