Yep, it used to happen to a 94 740i in the family. Tracked it down to incprrect fluid pressure in the system. BAsically, the fluid was low. Unfortunately, this car doesn't have a dipstick to check the fluid. It is an involved process that will have to be carried out at a specialized shop or the dealer.
The indicator in the manual is the module, but check the condition and level of the fluids first.
