It's bad luck to bring up 'car killer' nader's name in a public car forum.

First of all, BUSH.

And "vigilante justice" is a better solution to the justice system in some situations, in my opinion.
Consider a sister or female friend is abused by her boyfriend. What she can do is call the police, maybe get a restraining order, and the guy would serve what, like a couple months in jail? If that?
Or - you and a couple buddies can go return the favor.
Which is most likely going to sway the guy from abusing a woman again?

Thanks! I try and keep it updated... Not many members yet, just a few ppl with a few questions... Its hard to get a decent forum up and running with alot of members... But yes appreciate anyone who would like to post any kind of helpgul info...

On another note, even tho im selling my E30, I still love this forum for the fact its one of the few u can have actual debates like this and no one (usually) resorts to 'you're a dumbass!!!' and statments like that... We may disagree, but atleast we can all leave with our dignity!

Which brings me to my question... What did Nader do against cars?

So we take them away from the public, and when a criminal still gets them, what are we to do? Hope that a baseball bat is faster than a bullet? Maybe a bat, and the hope that the hope that the police show up in time is good enough for you, but its not for me... When I hear a noise in my house at night, the first thing I do is grab my gun and head downstairs... With a bat what are going to do against a gun? Atleast with another gun u have a chance...

Er, no... a rapist typically consummates the deal right then and there. It's only in movies that he drags it out and gives her a chance to dive for the bedside table. If you take self-defense classes, you'll know what to do with your shoe and a key.

Ok so I watch a bit of tv... But in my mind I still see a rapist taking them to where its easier to subdue them, which would be the bedroom... Have u ever tried having consensual intercourse standing up? Imagine that with that person fighting u... And the floor, forget about it... Rug burns not a nice thing... Gotta admit, that key and shoe dosnt sound very pleasant... Tho I dont disagree that a women, or anyone for that matter shouldnt take other precautions as well... Such as mace and self defence, im all for that... I simply think u should have a back up plan, a man would fight with a women in a heart beat if hes going to rape her, and he might just win, self defence or not, but theres no fighting with a gun... At that point its leave or be killed...

In the IL example, DNA testing exonerated more people than had been put to death since the penalty was reinstated in the late '70s. That's a lot of innocent people to kill just because you want to make sure you get everyone. And yes, that's indicative of some problems in the court system.

Ok, well im unfamiliar with the IL court systems, but I will absoultely refuse to believe that the courts, and the cops are all out to put ppl in jail, much less to death knowing they are innocent... I listen to rap, one artist in particular is a rapper named Z-ro, tho I do love his lyrics, he tries to send the same message (that cops are all bad) in his songs, I just ignore that part of the song... I dont doubt that some cops are bad, and racist, and will mess someone over, but I still refuse to agree that it happens on a broad scale... Cops wouldnt put up with the crap they do put up with (low wages, ppls attitudes, possibility of getting shot every day) if they just wanted to torment and torture ppl... You have to believe that cops are generally good ppl, its unamerican to believe otherwise... Thats my theory anyways...

Decided to put a word in here. Though admittedly I have not read through this whole thread (politics are far too boring). So excuse me if I repeat someone.

I see no reason for anyone other than law enforcement officials to have hand guns and automatic weapons. They are made for only one purpose...killing people. You can defend your home just fine with your deer rifle if you need. Hell, I can't actually say I am in favor of rifles and shotguns either. You call that hunting? Bait the thing (with scents, decoys, and calls you purchased off the shelf), sit and wait (in your designer camo and tree stand from Cabela's), then shoot it from 100 yards away (with a high powered rifle and scope)? The only hunting I see is flipping through Cabela's catolog looking for just the right "tree bark" camo socks.

Strip down to your skivvies and chase the thing through the woods with a knife. That's hunting!

No offence, but you've obviously never tried to shoot anything at close range with a rifle... Its not very manuverable... Too easy for someone to just push the barrel another way, or grab it... And u cant just store them in your bedroom, youd have to gun a cabinet which would probably be in the living room, or study, not very handy if a burgler is in your home and your not near your gun... Tho this the what I have a rifle, I think a hand gun is definately more plausable for defence... Plus its easier for children to find rifles, than a hand gun in which u can place up high or in a safe (one of those made for hand guns where u punch in the right combination and it opens like a drawer)... And u cant take a rifle with you, as opposed a hand gun, u can get a permit to carry it on your person and protect you from outside violence, car jacking, muggings, ect... I do however agree that automatic weapons arent for defence... I think those are more for collectors...

Guys..

One of the most important reasons for an armed public, is to keep our own government in check.
It is a failsafe mechanism which can be triggerd in the event that our own government
grossly over-steps it bounds.. as the German government began to do in the mid 1930's.

When our leaders idea's of freedom, differ beyond a certain point, with that of the peoples.. we must posses the tools required to add to that discussion.

In light of this, the public must remain 'Fairly' current in firearm technology.

Albeit.. the chances are very slim it would ever come to this.. but the bill of rights is constantly under attack.. and if they ever change it.. then look out boys.. to the extent of the change, this is no longer the United States of America.. and Every Single Man Woman and Child that ever died for this wonderful country, died in vain.

Protect the constitution.
Protect the Bill of Rights.
Let NOTHING erode the foundation of our
country.

What can I say? I agree 100%... I didnt wanna play the 'in case the govmt gets outta control' card, cuz I didnt want to sound paranoid, but its a certain possibility, and its also THE REASON why the forefathers added the right to bear arms to the Bill of Rights...

Anyone bring up the Patriot Act? That just doesn't effect people with dark skin, beards, and funny sounding names. How about the guranteed constitutional rights that we're denying the peeps down in Guantanamo bay? If China did something like that to us or one of our allies it would be WW III.

Just stirring the pot up...

86325e ...
Something like the patriot act worries me. I think it helps out current cause, but it is precisely the type of thing, enacted under precisely the type of event, which began Hitlers irreversible rise to power.

A sweeping authoritarian measure like this should only be enacted with legislature which mandates its automatic experation every couple years or so, and that to re-enact it requires a vote, put to the people.

The risk of this measure is indicative of our desparation.

I understand its need.. but its not a good thing at all. This measure is exactly what I mean when I mentioned 'over steps its bounds'.
Tell me the government couldn't WAY over step its bounds, under such a measure..

Failsafe: The right of the people to bare arms shall not be infringed.

bkbrouwer ... see above.

I agree with you MarkF. I'm sure the founding fathers are rolling in their graves though.

Would anyone actually vote for Bush... before he voted for Kerry?
(to mock kerry's, "I actually voted for the bill....before I voted against it.")

I'll pass on the socialist, Jane-fonda-hand-holdin-traitor that doesn't seem to be able to tell people the straight scoop on what he thinks the color of ****e is.

I don't like the fact that bush spends money like a democrat, but i'd rather our own country still have a say in what we do instead of being ruled by the UN... who, by the way, also cannot agree on the color of ****e.
